Meal Ministry for Families in Crisis

Meal Ministry for Families in Crisis

I wanted to make a post today to hopefully draw some attention to a local organization here that has been working to help some of our most vulnerable neighbors. The organization is the Meal Ministry for Families in Crisis, and it was started by local resident Joi Walker. I’ve attached a copy of the letter she gave me that provides details about the meal ministry. Joi’s group provides meals for families in the area who have been affected by various health issues, and the group runs on donations.

The Hive Little Free Pantry

The Hive Little Free Pantry

We have been fortunate enough to be able to buy food and pay bills during the past year, and we know others haven’t been as lucky. We’ve seen the turnover at our little free pantry out front, and we know a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet.

For those of you who don’t know, we have a little free pantry right in front of the kitchen ( Facebook.com/hivepantry ). I will be using the $600 I received from the govt stimulus/relief to fill the pantry as needed. If any of you would like to leave items in the pantry, you can do so whenever you like. If the pantry is full and you show up to donate when the kitchen is closed, just leave your donations on top. If we are open I am more than happy to keep items inside and fill the pantry as room is available.

Refrigerated items can be left only when the temp is going to remain in the 30’s, and please no glass jars.

Posting this today since someone called and asked for one, and oddly enough I hadn’t thought to post that we have these since the beginning of the pandemic.

If you know someone who is sick and could use a little pick me up, we can package 1 quart of soup of your choice depending on daily availability, box of tea, small jar of honey, lip balm and packet of tissues for $20. A little bit of advance notice is helpful to get all of the parts and pieces together.

Store update

We’ve had a lot of people asking if we are opening up for people to come in and shop this week, so I just wanted to update everyone. We are going to continue the curbside pickup for the time being for a couple of reasons. The main reason is we want to make sure everyone who works in the kitchen feels like it’s time for us to open up, and we’re not all at that point. There are multiple people and businesses that rent this space, and we need to respect everyone’s opinions with regard to safety. I know a lot of people are anxious to come in and check out the new space, and we are making some plans for that to happen. We’re also talking about some sort of open house, complete with free samples from the businesses that work here. I’ll post more updates on that once we have all of the details. For anyone who doesn’t know, our online ordering site is Hivekitchenstore.com.

Thanks for your patience, and have a great weekend!
