Stop by River Hawk Brewing tomorrow night and lend some support to one of our local residents fighting cancer. We’re bringing some baked mostaccioli and garlic bread, Florian is bringing his delicious chicken fajita soup, and a few of the food businesses at the kitchen have put together a “Relax, dinner is covered” raffle basket!

Little River Farmstead

Little River Farmstead

Tonight there is a couple in the kitchen who drove two and a half hours to extract 500 pounds of honey from their farm. They’re a small farm but they use their own wax and goats milk for the products that they make, and they grow hemp for use in their CBD products. Check them out! They’re an Illinois company, they’re probably as local as you can get for CBD oil products. Support your farmers ? you know this stuff isn’t coming from China!

The Hive is Growing

The Hive is Growing

In beekeeping, there’s a thing called “splitting the hive.” A beekeeper will do this usually in the spring, when the original hive has become too crowded with bees. If a big hive isn’t properly managed, the bees will swarm. They’ll leave the hive to look for a better place to live. In a split, half of the bees will be moved to another hive in the hopes that they will build up a second strong hive, just like the colony they were split from. It’s a reproduction process basically.

Well, that’s what happened at our Hive. We’re getting too crowded, and we would like to manage things so nobody feels like there’s not enough room and they want to leave. So we are giving them more room to work.

Luckily for us, there was an additional space open in the same strip mall where our original kitchen is located. It needs some work, and I will be heavily involved in the whole process while trying to manage the existing kitchen at the same time. So if I don’t see your Facebook post asking me to hold items for you, I’m sorry in advance, it’ll probably happen more than once during this renovation process. I’ll be juggling contractors and inspections and doing some of the work myself. We are planning to move the storefront to the new space to add more room so we can sell more products and ready made meals. Thanks to all of you who have been coming by and picking up meals, we’re growing. Faster than we thought we would. So stay tuned for more details on the second kitchen, and for updates on more food businesses joining the Hive.

Thank you to all of you over the past year for all of your support ❤️

Welcome to The Hive Community

Welcome to The Hive Community

In beekeeping, the hive is the collective, the community. The community works together on a daily basis to promote the wellbeing of their own colony, and in doing so the environment outside of the colony is enriched. Flowers and plants are pollinated, fruits and vegetables grow in greater abundance due to the teamwork of the bees in the hive.
Without the cooperation, communication and support of all of the bees in the colony, the hive fails. Only a strong, healthy hive can be productive.

We know this community is full of talented, creative people. Being creative isn’t always enough to get a business off the ground. Starting a business takes resources, especially money and time, and it means taking a risk that a lot of people aren’t comfortable enough to take. We are helping you minimize that risk here at The Hive to help get you going by building a kitchen space for you to rent when you need it without having to purchase expensive equipment and committing to a year long lease on your own.

Along the way we’d like to promote individuals who come to the Hive here in this space and on our social media pages to help give exposure and grow their ideas and start-up businesses. Want to be a part of this experiment? Let us know!
